1974:
Stonefield Vehicles of Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland
created a new off-road vehicle with load capacities
in the 1.5 to 3 ton range.
The Stonefield is a forward-control (cab-over) 4x4 or 6x4
with a space-frame chassis.
Engine options were
a Ford V6 petrol engine (101kW) wth Ford C3 3-speed automatic gearbox and
a Chrysler 318-1 V8 (110kW) with A727 3-speed automatic gearbox.
The transfer-case has full-time four wheel drive with a lockable
centre differential.
The 6x4 has a lazy third axle for increased load capacity.
The company went on to be called Stonefield Holdings, was later
taken over by Gomde, and closed in the early 1990s.
Nick Noyce started a Stonefield Register ~2000
to preserve the type, himself owning a P3000 6x4 and a P3000 4x4.
