- 2001: Design work started on the Gumpert 'apollo', a rear- (mid-) engined, road/track sportscar, 4,163cc Audi twin turbo V8, 650hp (to 800hp), 360km/h (224mph).
- 2005, April: The apollo made its "racing debut [in] the Divinol Cup, Hockenheim," placing 3rd – G.
- 2008: Gumpert built a hybrid racing version of the apollo which competed in the 24-hour race at Nurburgring-Nordschleife.
- 2011 March: Gumpert revealed its new 'Tornante' at the Geneva Motor Show – rear- (mid-) mounted 4.2-litre Audi sourced V8, 700bhp.
- 2012 August: Gumpert applied for insolvency. November: "Based of the ruling (8 IN 437/12), the local court Gera has been opened the insolvency proceedings since October 16." – G.
