1949: The 80" station wagon was built on a short wheel base Land-Rover but had a coach-built body of aluminium panels over a wooden frame. There were the usual 3 seats in the front, and 4 seats in the rear facing into the centre.

The Land-Rover 80" station wagon was expensive to build and only had a short run. Some did come to Australia including two that were used on the Snowy Mountains Scheme. Land-Rover later built much more economical SWB station wagons on 86" and 88" chassis using the (then) ordinary hard-top bodies as starting points - L. A11ison

Land Rover 80" Station wagon changes

Here is listed the part changes on 80" Station Wagons. Most of these parts were common to the Basic Model, so even though the vehicle is quite rare most the changed parts shouldn’t be to much to worry about. The left hand column shows the chassis number of the vehicle on which the parts changed. The right hand column describes which parts changed and how they changed.

06200010 The bolts fixing the shock absorbers and the exhaust bushes are changed from being welded to the chassis to being plain bolts that are removable from the chassis.
06200016 The elbow on top of the carburettor is changed from being the fully rounded type, part # 218182, to being the partly oval shaped type, part # 231494.
06200092 The brackets for bolting the bumper bar to the chassis are now welded to the bumper bar from being welded to the chassis. The bumper is now held with four bolts. It was previous held with eight bolts. The rear draw bar is change from being welded to the chassis and being ten holes wide, to being bolted to the chassis and eight holes wide.
06200094 The right hand floor plate is changed so that it doesn't have the circular cut out for the ring pull freewheel lock. The gear box cover is changed to have the yellow 'push down' lever bolted to it which now locks the freewheel unit. See also the 1950 gearbox # 06104015.
06200106 The L shaped bracket used to bolt the choke control bracket to the bulkhead is changed from being bolted to the choke control bracket to being spot welded to it. The choke control bracket changed again on the 1950 station wagon at chassis # 06200312
06200121 The R.H.D hand brake lever is changed from the bakealite handle type with the big button, part # 218379, to being plain steel handle type with a small button, part # 231316. See chassis # 06200325 for L.H.D hand brake lever change.
06200140 The voltage regulator is changed from RF 96 type to RF 95 type. As the RF 95 voltage regulator has two built in fuses, the fuse box is no longer fitted from this chassis number until 1951 model at chassis # 16103899. The wiring harness is changed to suit the new regulator. The fuse is change from 25 amp to 35 amp.
06200141 The speedometer is cable changed from having a brass gearbox retaining piece, part # 08972 to having the type held to the gearbox with a retaining washer and three bolts, part # 232570. See also 1950 gearbox number 06106001.
06200177 The two supports for the rear upper tail gate are changed from having a separate support stay, to having an integral support stay.
06200265 The R and L prefix on the chassis number to distinguish a right hand drive vehicle from left hand drive is dropped from chassis number.
06200287 The exhaust silencer assembly no longer has an integral rear support bracket. A separate rear bracket now supplied, part # 233618.
06200301 The rear tail board of the station wagon changed considerably. The parts book indicates that it has been simplified somewhat.
06200312 The head lights are now the sticking through the grille type. The grille panel and the grille are changed to suit the new head lights. The wiring harness is changed to suit the new head lights. The clips holding the headlight wires to the grill panel changed from the bolt on type to the press fit type. The chaff guard for the radiator changed to suit the new headlights. The choke control bracket is changed so that the L shaped bracket piece used to bolt the choke control bracket to the bulkhead is no longer fitted. The choke lever now bolts the choke control bracket to the bulkhead itself. The bulkhead now has two less holes around the choke hole. See also the previous choke control bracket change at 1950 chassis # 06200106.
06200325 The L.H.D hand brake lever is changed from the bakealite handle type with the big button, part # 218400, to being plain steel handle type with a small button, part # 232179. See chassis # 06100121 for R.H.D hand brake lever change.
06200410 The front road springs changed from being 1.75" wide and with the shackles at the front of the road springs, to being 2.5" wide with the shackles at the rear of the road springs. The spring bushes, shackle pins and the chassis changed to suit the new front road springs.

Land Rover 80" Station Wagon production stopped in the 1951 season.
